What You Need to Know About Plastic Windows
PVC windows
have long replaced wooden structures as they are cheaper, functional, and
durable. In this article, we will explain the different types of windows and
their distinctions.
Shapes of
Plastic Windows
- Rectangular:
The most popular shape used in both residential and commercial spaces. Their
relatively easy installation contributes to their popularity.
- Square: The
second most popular shape, often combined with windows of other forms.
- Arched:
Feature an arched form at the top, a designer choice mostly seen in buildings
with classical styles.
- Circular,
Oval: Less common, often used for design accents.
- Trapezoidal:
Applied in complex architectural structures and penthouses or where windows are
close to a building's corner with a slanting roof.
- Rhombus,
Hexagonal: Custom designer products for specific projects, often planned to fit
windows of such forms.
Types of
Opening for Plastic Windows
Based on
their opening type, they are categorized as follows:
- Fixed:
Windows that do not open at all.
- Sliding:
Open horizontally, saving space as they slide inward.
- Tilt and
Turn: Open by tilting and/or turning. They allow adjusting the degree of
opening for ventilation.
Which
Option Is Best It all depends on individual preferences, room layout, the
number of interior elements, appliances, and other objects. If you have a small
room and every square centimeter is crucial, a sliding window might be the
better solution.
Number of
Sashes
Plastic
windows also differ in the number of sashes:
- Single-sash:
Windows with one sash, fixed or hinged. One of the most common options.
- Double-sash:
Two separate sashes that open independently, providing good ventilation.
- Triple-sash:
Three separate sashes, which can either open or remain stationary. Often chosen
for office spaces.
- Quadruple-sash:
Four or more sashes with various opening combinations. Used in large buildings
or architectural projects.
- Balcony
Blocks: A combination of balcony doors and windows used to create a more
aesthetic transition from a room/kitchen to a balcony.
Type of PVC
Window Profiles
The profile
type and the number of chambers largely determine thermal insulation,
soundproofing, impact resistance, durability, and other characteristics. The
most common PVC windows based on profile type and the number of chambers:
- Four-chamber
profile: The simplest and most economical option. A standard choice for homes
or commercial spaces in normal (non-extreme) climatic conditions.
- Five-chamber
profile: An improvement over the previous option, providing better sound and
thermal insulation. Used when increasing energy efficiency and optimizing
electricity costs are needed.
- Six-chamber
profile: Installed in buildings located in noisy areas where special sound and
thermal insulation requirements are necessary.
PVC Windows
Based on Glazing Type
- Single-glazed:
Two layers of glass separated by a gas or air layer.
- Double-glazed:
Three layers of glass separated by gas or air. One of the most common options
for homes and offices, blocking external noise and offering high thermal
insulation.
- Triple-glazed:
Four layers of glass separated by gas or air. More expensive than
double-glazed, with excellent sound and thermal insulation properties.
- Sun
Protection Glazing: Blocks UV radiation and protects the room from overheating,
recommended for installation in apartments, offices on the sunny side of a
building.
- Soundproof:
Thick glass that doesn't allow sound to pass through.
- Safety
Glass: Also known as laminated glass. In case of breakage, the fragments are
held by an intermediate layer, reducing the risk of injury. Additionally,
laminated glass has anti-burglary properties.
